Floorcloth Construction

Floorcloths are made using #4 cotton duck, which is a very heavy weight canvas and is used so that the finished product will not curl at the edges. The canvas is primed twice on both sides using an acrylic latex primer. Two coats of the base color is then applied to the top, followed by the design layer, which is applied using both stencils and free-hand. Finally, 5 coats of polyacrylic are applied to the top layer of rugs. For placemats, table runners, and coasters, 3 coats of polyacrylic are applied to the top surface, and 2 coats are applied to the under surface. Rugs are finished with a 2-inch mitered hem, which is securing using both double-sided carpet tape and wood glue. Placemats, table runners, and coasters are not hemmed.
